Blueberry Orange Smoothie
for an Antioxidant Rich Super Drink

There are many fruit smoothie combinations out there, and blueberry and orange is probably not one that readily comes to mind.  But don’t let that deter you, blueberry orange smoothies are absolutely delicious.   The two flavors just seem to complement each other.  Blueberries are not that sweet, certainly not as sweet as other berries, so the addition of orange just adds that bit of sweetness.

I also prefer to use whole oranges for these smoothies, rather than orange juice.  Not only are you getting all that added fiber, but you know that you are only adding real fruit to your smoothie and not added sugar.  You also get all the goodness from the blueberries which includes powerful antioxidant protection.    These little blue morsels are a nutrition powerhouse, with benefits unlike any other fruit.  Add this to the vitamin C in oranges and you have a smoothie that packs a powerful punch.

Because oranges have a high water content, you will need to add a thickener, such as banana or yogurt.  I would also recommend using frozen berries.   This will also add creaminess, transforming a rather watery drink into a smooth and creamy thickshake.
